A FLOW Goal is a unique type of goal and one you’ve probably never heard of. That’s because I developed it. Basically, I was tired of SMART goals. I believe SMART goals are pretty dumb!
Specific?
No issues with this one. Your goal should be specific but there’s different types of specific. “I want more money” isn’t specific. “I want $100,000” is but not in my world of FLOW Goals
Measurable?
Sure, your goal can be measurable but most people believe that you need to quantify your measurements. I believe you need to sensify your measurements. Yes, I know, SENSIFY isn’t a word. It means that you need understand what sensory feedback occurs when you obtain your goal.
Achievable?
Why do I have a problem with this? Because your goals should not be achievable. If you can achieve your goal already, then it is a lousy goal. This means you can already do it. If you can already do it, why aren’t you? Ahhhh, good question, right? FLOW Goals stretch you to accomplish things you are afraid to do.
Realistic?
Your goal should also not be realistic because if it is, then you aren’t actually dreaming very well. Without a dream, how do you expect to build a better YOU?
Time-bound?
And lastly they shouldn’t be time-bound. Why? Well, let’s just say it’s about the type of goals that you are writing. Different types of goals have different types of measurements. Based on Who You Want to Become, you will often determine the timing of your goal.
Goals should stretch you to success
Do you see why I think SMART goals are dumb? Your goals should make you sweat and get you frustrated and sometimes make you want to quit. That’s a real goal. That’s a FLOW Goal. Trust me on this. You will see in this video (50+ min) how amazing a FLOW goal really is.
